About Excel Specialty Corporation
Our History
Originally Excel was a manufacturer of military products. We assembled communications equipment, stamped military id tags, wire harnesses for the air plane industry, military police night sticks and hot stamped wire markers. When World War II ended so did the original company's direct government contracts. With that, Excel Specialty Corporation was established in 1949. Excel Specialty continued to supply military products and quickly found new non-military applications for its production capacity. It found a new home in the expanding consumer goods market place with the advent of new appliances being introduced to the post war economy.
The company soon became one of the largest appliance wire harness manufactures in the midwest (the home of most appliance manufacturing at the time). Excel also continued to make products in the communications industry doing work both on the consumer radio side and in the commercial broadcasting equipment side.
Through several decades of change to both the appliance and communications industries, Excel has had to adopt and change. Excel continues to be a supplier to the appliance industry and has moved into the medical, lighting, HVAC, industrial controls and industrial equipment industries. We manufacture wire harnesses to UL and CSA standards along with heat shrink markers and eyeleting services. We also mirror overflow assembly production for our customers as needed.
